More info: The Watkins Glen Farm Sanctuary is in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. The rolling green pastures of Farm Sanctuary’s 275-acre site are home to more than 600 rescued farm animals.

At Farm Sanctuary they say " Visitors who spend time with the pigs at Farm Sanctuary often leave with the impression that they are not so different from the dogs so many of us share our homes with—emotionally sensitive, playful and inquisitive, and always eager for a snack or a belly rub "

Pigs are able to experience some of the same emotions as humans, like happiness, excitement, fear, and anxiety. Pigs are able to remember important pieces of information for long periods of time. They have broad social abilities too, like distinguishing individuals out of a group; communicating with each other through touch, smell, sound, and sight; and learning to pick up on the verbal and nonverbal cues of humans.
