More info: Werribee Open Range Zoo is an African themed zoo in Werribee, about 32 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is part of the Zoological Parks and Gardens Board or Zoos Victoria which also includes Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.
As well as lions at Werribee Open Range Zoo, Australia has lions at other zoos, including a large pride at Monarto Safari Park in South Australia, a family at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, and lions at and Melbourne Zoo in Victoria. These institutions participate in conservation breeding programs for the vulnerable species.
