More info: The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species of seal that is endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago and is one of the most endangered seals in the world.

Hawaiian monk seale are a dark gray on their backs with lighter, yellowish-brown bellies. The females are slightly larger than males, and they can weigh up to 600 lbs. Females give birth to a single pup after a gestation period of around 11 months. Mothers will nurse their pups for about five to six weeks, during which time they do not eat. Pups are born with a dark coat of fur called lanugo, which they shed after they are weaned.
