The mugger crocodile reaches a length of 4 to 5 meters and a maximum weight of 700 kgs. It is a muddy brown colour and has rough thick scales covering the whole of the body. Its snout is the widest amongst all the species of crocodiles.
Mugger crocodiles are poikilothermic reptiles which means they need to regulate their internal temperature by basking. Mugger crocodiles dig burrows to help maintain and protect them from ambient temperature changes. The mugger crocodiles are opportunistic carnivores. They are capable of eating any animal smaller than themselves, including other crocodiles.
