Dublin Zoo is one of Dublin's most popular attractions. It was established and designed in 1830 by Decimus Burton and opened the following year. It is the third oldest zoo in the world. During World War II the public donated food to the animals and trees were chopped down to heat the houses.
Today, Dublin Zoo supports a variety of conservation projects of which great apes, tigers, rhinos, golden lion tamarins, African wild dogs and amphibians have been recipients.
