More info: The herd of elk at Elk View Park, have been present since the late 1980s, when a local nature centre closed, and three elk needed a permanent home. City staff provide daily care, including hay, corn, sugar beets, and vitamins. The animals are not raised for meat and are never used for hunting.
The elk at Elk View Park in Gaylord, Michigan, are Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus canadensis) Male bull elk can reach over 800 pounds and stand about 6 feet tall, dropping their large antlers in spring and regrowing them by fall.
