More info: The leopard gecko is a nocturnal, ground-dwelling lizard native to the rocky dry grassland and desert regions of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Nepal.

Leopard geckos are easily recognisable by their striking leopard print patterned skin which acts as good camouflage in the dry-desert rocks or grasslands.

Leopard geckos have a small triangular-shaped head, a long body and a chunky, segmented tail which stores fat. When hunting, mating and defending territory, leopard geckos shake their tails. The have slender digits with long, extending claws - none of their digits have toe pads, so they cannot adhere to walls like other gecko species can. Many geckos lack eyelids, but not leopard geckos - they can even blink and close their eyes while sleeping. Leopard Geckos shed more frequently than most lizards, which in the wild, keeps their scent from being detected by predators.

Males are larger than females measuring between 7 to 11 inches and weighing 70-100 grams. Females are between 6.5 to 8 inches and weigh between 40-90 grams.
