Brave Dikkop fends off Monitor Lizard from Crocs Eggs

Video courtesy of: John Downer Productions

Information: A wonderful video showing a very brave dikkop fending off a monitor lizard from eggs in a neighbouring crocodile nest. The dikkop locates its nest close to the nest of the Nile crocodile for protection from other predators. The dikkop and the crocodile work together to protect their eggs and nests.

The dikkop refers to a bird known as the Spotted Thick-knee or Cape Thick-knee (scientific name Burhinus capensis). It is a type of shorebird in the family Burhinidae, also sometimes called a stone curlew.
