Information: Video showing a caribbean flamingo chick hatching. This incredible video shows a close-up view of a flamingo chick breaking out of its shell and taking its first wobbly step.

A flamingo lays just one egg on top of a mud mound, that is then cared for by both the mother and father. The egg hatches after about 30 days.

Caribbean flamingos are large, bright pink birds, 80-145 cm long, found in South America and the Caribbean. They are the largest and most brightly coloured of the flamingo species. Caribbean flamingos appear to be monogamous; the pair bond is maintained from year to year. Nests are a pile of mud formed into a cone with a shallow depression on top to cradle a single egg, protecting it from flooding and varying ground temps.
