More info: The bearded vulture, unlike most vultures, does not have a bald head. Each side of the face is separated by a thick black band around the eyes, with long, broad black bristles at the base of the bill that resemble a beard.
Bearded vultures are scavengers but with a difference: they consune the bones left behind by others. Their highly acidic gastric juices enable them to easily digest the bones and if the pieces are too big, they smash them on the rocks by dropping them from a height, in flight.
Female bearded vultures lay one to three eggs per breeding cycle, with usually only one egg surviving.
