More info: The curlew is the largest European wading bird, characterised by its long, slender, downcurved bills and mottled brown plumage.
Curlews are easily recognised by their very distinctive long curled beak. They have a haunting "cur-lee" call, which can be heard from February to July in their breeding season. Curlews Will breed in a range of habitats, but prefer rough grasslands, moorlands and bogs.
