More info: In 2014, a collaboration between the Leicestershire and Rutland ornithological Society and Leicester County Council, was formed called Leicester Peregrines, to monitor and promote the conservation of peregrines.
In 2016 a nest platform was constructed on the east facing side of the Cathedral spire to encourage safe nesting and breeding.
An urban existence has now become quite normal for many peregrine falcons in much of England and by colonising city centres they have been able to expand their range and population significantly. Ideal nesting sites include cathedral and church towers, office blocks and shopping centres.
As well as adapting to use the city’s architecture, the peregrines use the dusk illuminations to target their new source of prey.
