More info: Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve is a 200-acre reserve near Fakenham in Norfolk, situated along the River Wensum. The Reserve is home to a variety of habitats, including woodland, wetland, meadow and reedbed. It is managed by the charity Hawk and Owl Trust, which was founded in 1969, to conserve and protect wild birds of prey.

Tawny owls have two main color "morphs": reddish-brown (rufous) and grey. They have excellent camourflage as their mottled plumage mimics tree bark and makes them hard to spot as they rest in dense ivy or tree hollows during the day. Unlike some other owls, they do not have "ear tufts" and they possess large, solid black eyes.

Tawny owls are strongly territorial and mostly sedentary, meaning they stay in the same area year-round and rarely leave their established territory. They may even evict their own adult offspring to maintain exclusive use of a patch.
