Info: Maasai Mara National Reserve is located in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border and adjoining Serengetti National Park. Wildlife moves freely between the two parks, particularly during the annual wildebeest migration.
The landscape consists of grassy plains, rolling hills, riverine forests and rocky outcrops and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The Reserve covers an area of 1,510 km2 (583 square miles)
The wildlife of Mara Game Reserve includes the " big five " (lion, leopard, African elephant, cape buffalo, and black rhinoceros) and other popular species like zebra, giraffe, hyena, cheetah, wildebeest, eland and Thomson's gazelle.
The Masai Mara has over 470 recorded bird species, including large ground birds like ostriches, kori bustards and southern ground hornbill and various eagles such as the martial eagle and tawny eagle, and numerous waterbirds like storks, herons, and pelicans. The Reserve also features striking birds like the lilac-breasted roller and secretary bird, as well as migratory birds that arrive during the wet season from November to April.
