Info: Fringe-eared oryx are found only in south eastern Kenya and north eastern Tanzania where they inhabit dry open bush and short grass savannah.

The fringe-eared oryx is a large antelope of around 180-200kg with a compact body. The colour is grey-fawn with a distinctive pattern on the head and body with ears which bear very distinctive tufts of long black hair which is also found above the hooves and end of the tail. The horns are 76 to 81 cm (30 to 32 in) long, and almost straight.

Oryx are crepuscular meaning they are more active at dawn and dusk, thus avoiding the hottest part of the day. They can go for days without drinking and may be encountered very far from water.

Fringe-eared oryx travel in nomadic herds, typically composed of 30 to 40 individuals. Herds have a home range of 300 to 400 km2 (120 to 150 sq mi)
