More info: The greylag goose is a large waterfowl and is the ancestor of the domestic goose. It has mottled and barred grey/brown plumage, an orange/pink beak and dull pink legs. The greylag goose has a wide distribution with birds from the north of its range in Europe and Asia, migrating southwards to spend the winter months in warmer places.

Greylag geese are monogamous and mate for life. The breeding season typically occurs in April to May. Greylags nest on the ground among heather, rushes, dwarf shrubs or reeds, or on a raft of floating vegetation. The nest is made from pieces of reed, sprigs of heather, grasses, and moss, mixed with small feathers and down. The female lays 4 to 6 eggs and incubates them for around 28 days. The goslings fledge at 8 or 9 weeks.
