More info: The Eurasian hoopoe is a very distinctive bird with its orange-brown colouring, black and white wings, long downward curved bill and a tall erectile crest on top of its head. The hoopoe has a characteristic undulating flight, due to the wings half-closing at the end of each beat.
The range of the Eurasian hoopoe covers much of Europe, southern Asia and parts of Africa and it is rarely seen in North America. It generally inhabits open spaces which allow for foraging and places with cavities available for nesting.
The female hoopoe lays anywhere between 3 and 11 eggs. She alone incubates the eggs, but both parents help tend to and feed the young after they hatch. They typically produce 2 or 3 broods per breeding season.
