More info: De Beers has eight different conservation and heritage properties in South Africa and Botswana, all with a strong diamond-related legacy, the network stretches from the Succulent Karoo of Namaqualand on South Africa’s west coast, to the Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve on the country’s northern border, right up to the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana.

For every acre of land used for mining by De Beers Group, six acres are dedicated to the conservation of nature. Due to the fact that diamond mines are some of the most secure areas in the world, the surrounding land creates the perfect environment for conserving flora and fauna, enabling many threatened species to thrive.

Alongside supporting a rich variety of wildlife and protected species, the properties are host to scientific research programmes with international universities, as well as educational outreach programmes with local schools and tourists to support local economic development.
