Lithuania is a relatively small country in north central Europe and consists of broad flat plains, grasslands, dense forests and abundant rivers and streams. Large mammals present include wild boar, European elk, roe deer, brown bear, badgers and lynx. The European bison had been successfully re introduced. Marine animals native to Lithuania include the gray seal, dolphins, blue porpoises, harbour porpoises and whales. Nemunas Delta, in the south west is a maze of freshwater rivers and tributaries, reedbeds, channels, mixed forests and raised bogs and is a veritable paradise for birds.
